New Teeth for ME!!

I can't believe it has been a two month ordeal, but I finally have permanent teeth back in my mouth. The dentist implanted my three teeth Monday morning without any major problems. My gums have really taken a beating the last two months so it will take a couple more weeks for them to heal up completely. I know there are lessons to be learned in this whole episode, I am still trying to figure out what they may be. When my gums are not black and blue, maybe I will post pictures with my new smile. Thank you to all who have prayed and sent me get well smiles these last couple of months. They mean so much to me! T.

Basketball Stars

Upward Basketball season 07-08'

After countless practice hours, multiple lay-ups and just a few scrapes this year, we finished our basketball season. Both of the kids had great seasons although poor Miranda's team only won one game the whole season. I feel so bad for her coach who is so dedicated and has great kids on his team, but they always seem to be out matched. Aaron showed huge improvement and was a great source of screens through out the entire season. He is always quick to give high fives and praise to anyone who scores a basket, regardless if they are on his team or not. He usually received the "best sportsmanship" star of which, I could not be prouder of him for.

The end of an eventful week

We finally made it to weeks end. Yeah!! I was reflecting this week how just a few hours can really bring about all types of new events in our lives. God definitely has bigger plans than I could ever imagine myself. I made it through the gruesome Monday-Wednesday episodes of being sicker than I can ever remember. I'm positive that morphine will never enter my system again if I can help it. My gums are turning back to a pink color from the black/blue tint they had earlier in the week. Although many of you have asked for pictures of this lovely time in my life, I have chosen to wipe it completely from my memory as soon as it is over so I don't want to take the chance of pictures bringing back any memories.
I have to brag on my kiddos a little though, they never missed a beat with school this week and Miranda even started a research paper on her own. Again, there are days I wonder how they possibly have my DNA and not just all of Toms. We celebrated Valentines day just the 4 of us at Melting Pot a' la Mom. We enjoyed cheese appetizers, crab cakes and heavenly chocolate/peanut butter fondue to top off the evening. Tom was presented with new pillows to try out for him to take to Afghanistan. Since he will be sharing a room and sleeping in a bunk bed, we figured we would try to make him comfortable. He is really looking forward to "shacking" up with a stranger and fighting over top or bottom bunk--NOT!

As always, on to next week!

On the Up

So, dental surgery is not the time to realize you are allergic to a specific pain medication. Take my word for it. I had my triple root canal on Monday morning. All in all it was not too bad of an experience. In and out in about two hours. We went directly from the dentist office to Walgreens to fill my prescription. It is amazing how quickly the numbing meds wear off. Within 20 minutes I was white knuckling it waiting for the prescription to be filled. I immediately gulped the prescribed dose as soon as the pharmacist handed it to me.

We continued to pick up kids and return home. I take my prescribed dose every four hours and headed to bed about 10pm. By about 2am, I wake up, heaving, very dizzy and hives covering my body. For the next 10 hours I spend on the bathroom floor sick and miserable. I found out later yesterday afternoon from a friend who is a nurse, that the presciption was for a derivitive of morphine and for a dose that would be for someone the size of a horse. Lovely!! Excludes me on both accounts.

This morning I am up with swollen gums but no sickness. It is amazing how quickly your body can turn from being miserable to fine the next day. Another pound lost!

recovery

Haven't had much to blog about lately. I am trying to slowly recover from a fall that I don't think I will soon forget. It did accomplish one thing; reminding me how truly valuable our friends and family are. My counter was filled with flowers that were sent from friends that wanted to brighten my days. Every morning for a week when I couldn't have coffee, at least I could get up and be cheered by the flowers that greeted me. So, on Monday I will have a triple root canal and temporary teeth put it. It will take about a week or so for my perm. ones to be made. Tom purchased noise cancelling earphones for me to wear at the dentist office. Hopefully it will help keep me calm not to hear all the tools they will have to use.
Tom's preparation for his deployment continues. His trunk of his car has become his storage area and everytime I open it there are more things inside. His ASP training the other day left him very sore and with a case of respiratory congestion since they were outside in the cold. Stick training gave him a chance to release some aggression. We are still in a holding pattern as far as whether we will move this summer or not. At this point, I am thinking we will remain here in New Mexico at least until he returns from Afghanistan.
Again, keep up with us as you never know what will happen next. We will keep you posted!
